Looks can be deceiving. Not everything is as it seems. Does that sound like a tagline from a thriller? The truth is no villain or sultry siren can top Mother Nature when it comes to the art of deception.

Consider the attached photo. At first glance, it looks like the morning after a snowstorm, doesn’t it? Not so. The flocking on these towering evergreens is actually layer upon layer of frost! The trees had been standing in a cloud of freezing fog for over a week. The snow didn’t fall until much later.

So if ever I decide to write a story about a character left wandering, dazed and alone, through a forest shrouded in freezing fog? Well, you can bet your last farthing that I’ll include a description of frost so thick it looks like snow.
